Basic Principles At a general level, IHL tries to find a balance between the two fundamental principles that are the principle of humanity on the one hand and the principle of military necessity on the other hand. Finding the balance between these two considerations is the role of what can loosely be described as the legislator; the states which negotiate and adopt conventions regarding IHL, or contribute, through their practice and opinio juris, to the formation of customary international law rules that apply to armed conflicts. According to the views of the High Contracting Parties, these provisions [of the present Convention], the wording of which has been inspired by the desire to diminish the evils of war, as far as military requirements permit, are intended to serve as a general rule of conduct for the belligerents in their mutual relations and in their relations with the inhabitants.
When disagreements or other contentious situations arise in the workplace, it can reduce productivity, harm employee relationships and damage morale.
Establish Expectations Let your employees know what you expect from them in terms of appropriate workplace behaviors. You can do this through training, professional development seminars or information in your employee handbook. Setting expectations in advance lets employees know how conflicts are to be addressed and resolved and what the consequences are if problems persist.
Create a Reporting System Be specific with your employees about how you go about identifying, addressing and reporting conflict. Staffers should respectfully work out minor problems among themselves, but if the problem cannot be resolved, encourage them to come to you with a documented account of the issue.

For example, in this instance, you might ban Joe from bringing electronics in the workplace or establish a system in which he is overseen or must report productivity numbers at the end of every shift. For example, schedule employees to work different shifts or issue a formal write-ups.
Consider probation or termination if consistent conflict persists. Document every exchange with employees as you try to resolve their conflicts to ensure you have a full record of the process for your own supervisors.
Encourage Respect Reduce the need for conflict resolution by promoting a respectful workplace environment where colleagues support one another, work in teams and set collective goals.
